Qflix

How Qflix Works

Qflix is made up of four key components: Qflix-enabled DVD recorders, Qflix-enabled DVD recordable media, Qflix-enabled software for PC or CE devices, and Qflix secure key servers. Each of these work together to enable premium content to be written to secure CSS (content scrambling system)-encrypted DVD media on demand. This is a major breakthrough as studio produced DVDs require CSS protection, and up until now CSS-protected discs could only be mass produced in manufacturing facilities using "stamped" discs.

To make recordable-CSS work on recordable DVD media, and to ensure maximum compatibility with the hundreds of millions of set-top and PC-based DVD players worldwide, specific changes are required to standard DVD recorders, DVD media, and the software that controls DVD burning to make them Qflix-enabled [Qflix specifications are available to Qflix licensees]. In addition, the surrounding content management, delivery, formatting, and CSS-key delivery system must be robust and secure.

In order to communicate all of this to the consumer, Qflix-certified components all bear the Qflix logo.
